Search Like A Pro On Windows Search

Posted by becks | 10:40 AM |

The built-in desktop search tool is one of my favorite features of Windows. Unlike Google Instant, Windows Desktop Search cannot predict queries in advance but it can find you relevant documents, e-mails, programs and other files almost as fast as you can type characters in the search box.

Windows search can be accessed from a variety of places on your computer. This includes the Windows Start Menu, Windows Explorer or press the “Windows key + F” to open a standalone search window. The latter option is more useful as it offers hints as you type and thus you can easily construct complex search queries without knowing the exact syntax.

Use Windows Desktop Search like a Pro

Windows Search supports simple operators to help you narrow down search results and find the exact file or email message that you’re looking for. Some real-world examples:

1. Find presentations (ppt files) that contain a particular word.

ext:ppt sales {Search for the word “sales” in file names as well the content of documents}

ext:ppt filename:sales {Search only file names, don’t look inside the file content}

2. Find documents that were created or modified this week.

ext:doc date:this week {replace doc with xls, ppt, etc. for other file types}

In addition to “this week”, you may use values like today, yesterday, last week, past month or even “a long ago” with the date: search operator. It also works with date ranges as in the following examples.

date:13-‎09-‎2010..‎24-‎09-‎2010 {find files added /modified in this date range}

kind:pictures date:>23-09-2010 {find all photographs that were captured after this day}

3. Find files that are taking lot of space on your system.

The following search query will instantly find gigantic video files that are larger than 128 MB in size. If you replace the value “gigantic” with “empty”, you’ll see all the files are 0 KB in size.

size:gigantic kind:video {find large video files like mp4, mov, wmv, avi, etc.}

size:>500MB {all files that are larger than .5 GB}

size:500MB..800Mb {find files that are in this particular size range}

4. Find files within a specific folder.

Windows Desktop Search, by default, will find files across all folders that have been added to the search index. If your search results are cluttered due to this, you can quickly narrow them down to select folders as in the following examples:

todo folder:documents {search your My Documents folders}

folder:desktop ext:pdf date:today {find PDF documents that you saved today}

adobe setup.ini folder:c:\program files {search a file in Adobe’s installation folders}

5. Find Emails with Windows Search

Other than documents and files, Windows Search is an excellent tool for searching your Outlook emails and it works more or less like search commands in Gmail. Some examples:

from:aryaman date:this week {find emails from Aryaman that you received this week}

isread:false importance:high {find all your important but still unread emails}

hasattachment:true size:>5mb {find emails with bulky attachments}

subject:”credit card” from:bank.com {find all Credit Card related emails from the bank}

These are just a few useful examples but you should also check out MSDN for a complete list of advanced search operators that are supported by Windows Desktop Search.

Also, if you have trouble getting your files or your emails in the search results, chances are that you have not added the locations to your Windows Search Index. Go to Control Panel –> Indexing Options and modify your Indexed Locations.

SHARE IT!!! IN FACEBOOK!!!

There are so many ways by which you can remotely access your computer files over the Internet but the service that I am currently in love with is ZumoCast – simple, elegant and it’s free to use without any limitations.

With ZumoCast installed, you don’t ever have to upload your desktop files to the cloud but you’ll still be able to access them from other computers or your iOS devices.

To get started, just install the ZumoCast client on your Windows or Mac computer and select the folders on your desktop that you would like to access remotely. That’s it!

Now open the ZumoCast website on any other computer, log into your account and you’ll have immediate access to all your files and folders. The only condition is that your original computer, where the files are physically stored, should be on and connected to the Internet.

Other than accessing files from a remote computer, you may also use ZumoCast to upload new files from your current (remote) computer to the original computer via the browser.

iPhone and and iPad users may download the native ZumoCast app on their devices as it offers an even better experience and can transcode videos on the fly – that means if you have video on your computer in the format that’s not supported by the iPhone, you can still play it via live streaming.

An Android version of ZumoCast is in the works as well.

Top File Compression Tools

Posted by becks | 12:36 PM |

Here are the 7 best file compression tools available today that will add power and simplicity to your life.

1. 7 Zip is a free utility for Windows and Linux that has its own, powerful 7z compression format, but compresses and uncompresses 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR files. This convenient compression tool will also uncompress files in the ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, DMG, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MSI, NSIS, RAR, RPM, UDF, WIM, XAR and Z formats.

2. Universal Extractor is a popular Windows compression tool because it integrates nicely with Windows Explorer. This free utility will open compressed files for viewing and extraction as well as other file types such as executables and database files. Universal Extractor detects the type of file you want to open; you can open files even if they have no extension, so extracting files is always fast and easy. Universal Extractor extracts files: it does not have the ability to create compressed files.

3. PeaZip is an open source compression tool that will extract and create compressed files such as 7Z, 7-Zip sfx, ACE, ARJ, BZ2, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, GZ, ISO, JAR, LHA/LZH, NSIS, OOo, PAQ/LPAQ, PEA, QUAD, RAR, RPM, split, TAR, Z, ZIP. You can download versions of PeaZip that run on either Windows or Linux for free.

4. KGB Archiver has one of the highest compression ratios available when it uses its own PAQ7 algorithm. In fact, with KGB, you can shrink files to less than one-fifth of their size This program works with KGB and Zip files, so you’ll use it more to compress than to decompress. KGB Archiver also integrates with Universal Extractor and incorporates the option to use AES-256 encryption for files you create. Version two of KGB Archiver is now in beta and is available for Windows only. The current release of KGB (1.x) runs with Windows, Linux, or Macintosh. This is a free utility.

5. TUGZip is a robust compression tool that supports scripting and other powerful options. File archives in P, 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, BH, BZ2, CAB, CPIO, DEB, GCA, GZ, IMP, JAR, LHA (LZH), LIB, RAR, RPM, SQX, TAR, TGZ, TBZ, TAZ, YZ1 and ZOO formats are all opened in TUBGZip and disk images in BIN, C2D, IMG, ISO and NRG formats can also be opened. TUGZip will create 7-ZIP, BH, BZ2, CAB, JAR, LHA (LZH), SQX, TAR, TGZ, YZ1 and ZIP files. This program integrates well with Windows shell and enables powerful browsing and drag and drop functionality as well as several encryption formats. TUGZip is free and runs only in Windows.

6. WinRAR is a shareware file compression tool for which you must pay if you use it beyond the trial period. WinRAR supports encryption, and handles all the most common file formats. You can download WinRAR for use with Windows, Macintosh, Pocket PC, Linux, Linux 64, FreeBSD, and MS-DOS. You can purchase WinRAR for $29 for a single user license, with options with a declining pricing scale for additional users.

7. The Unarchiver is designed to be a replacement for the default Mac OS X file archive handler. This is free software that runs on Macintosh. It handles files in Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, RAR, 7-zip, LhA, StuffIt, and other formats and easily installs in the Mac OS X environment.

These 7 best file compression tools all have outstanding capabilities and will help you deal with compressed files whenever you need to create them or open them. Try them all. Find the one you like best or install one or more on your system to make sure you are always ready.

If your aim is to repair a corrupted SD card so that you can use it to store files then proceed to step #2.
If your aim is to recover the files on the SD card without erasing them, proceed to step #5.

Place the SD card into your computers SD card slot.

Secure Digital cards are the current standard for digital cameras, PDAs and many other handheld electronic devices. They are small, portable memory cards which store data, such as images, that can be transferred from device to device. As with other current technologies, they are not perfect. This article will discuss the problems with those cards and how to resolve them. But don't worry -- many of the problems are easier to resolve than you think.

    Write Protection

  1. If your SD card is giving you write protection errors, it could be that the write protection switch is set to the on position. Most SD cards come with a switch you can set to prevent your data from being erased or written over. If this switch is set to on, you will not be able to add or delete information from your card, so make sure you turn the card's protection off before attempting to write to the card.
  2. Vista Compatibility

  3. Your SD card may not be recognized by Window's Vista because of a compatibility issue. To resolve this issue, make sure you have the latest Window's service pack installed, because this contains a fix for this bug. If you have the latest service packs, Windows offer a "hotfix" that will fix this specific problem. If you have the latest service pack and you've installed the hotfix, you can contact Microsoft via their support software for additional help
  4. Missing Drive

  5. Another commonly occurring problem is when your SD card is connected to your PC but is not showing up in your My Computer menu. Remove all of your USB devices. Then go to device manager and uninstall your USB SD card adapter. One uninstalled, reboot your system and then plug the card back in, Window's should automatically detect the device.
  6. Formatting

  7. Before you load any images or information on your SD card, you will need to format it. Formatting is where you attune your device to your computer and peripheral hardware. For this you will need to insert the card into your PC, closing any auto play windows that appear. Once you have done this, and the device when it appears in the My Computer window, right click and select format.
  8. Considerations

  9. For any problem not listed here, there is general advice for problem solving. If you cannot determine why your card is not working properly, reinstall the drivers. When you do this, make sure you delete your old drivers, restart, then install the new ones. If you have another memory card, plug it in and see if your PC can read it -- if so, your SD card may be damaged. As with any peripheral device, make sure your card is securely plugged into your USB adapter or the SD card slot.

How to delete your all email on yahoo with single click?

If you are using yahoo mail then you got more mail per day like per day 200 to 300.

Recently I got more than 14450 emails after log in months ago. So the quick and fast methods to

Remove all the mails are as follows:-

Methods 1

  1. Go to yahoo.com
  2. Log in with your valid username and password
  3. You have to be using the "All New Mail" in order to delete them all at once so switch to it temporarily (if necessary).
  4. Click on Options then select and click on"switch to All New Mail"
  5. Then click on "action">"select all">"delete".

Methods 2

If you don't want to do the above methods then, change the "messages per page" to 200 instead of 25. That's 8 times faster at least.

  1. Go to Mail page>>options>>mail options
  2. Go down to and change the number in the box
  3. then click "save" change.
  4. Now you can delete them page by page---200

If you like this tips then you can share to your friends and don’t forget to subscribe.

Thanks you.
